Today, JOBPLOY visited Magnix Engineering, a medical device manufacturing company located in Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, which boasts over 30 years of accumulated precision mold and injection manufacturing technology.
We have hired several foreign talents through JOBPLOY, and we conducted a direct interview with the team leader who is in charge of overall company operations, human resources, and administrative tasks.
Q1. What motivated you to start hiring foreign workers?
Small manufacturing companies often face difficulties in recruiting on-site personnel, especially domestic workers. We learned that foreign workers are diligently working in Korea, which led us to start hiring them.
In a situation where manpower was essential, we decided to hire foreign talents through legal procedures, believing that if our needs aligned well, it could be a good growth opportunity for both the company and the workers.
Q2. What were your biggest concerns when first considering hiring foreign workers? / What difficulties did you encounter after starting to hire foreign workers?
Communication and on-site adaptation were major concerns. We worried whether work instructions would be accurately conveyed and if there would be conflicts on-site due to cultural differences. Once we started, perhaps because it was our first time, the administrative procedures seemed the most complex and difficult.
Q3. What foreign workers are currently employed?
Two people from Myanmar are currently working. It was very surprising that the two foreign workers we hired this time turned out to know each other. I remember us all being surprised and laughing when they met on-site, and we were all happy together.
Q4. What do you consider to be the biggest advantages of foreign workers after actually working with them?
Their diligence and sense of responsibility towards work. Although there are individual differences, their concentration is high when learning new production processes and work content.
Q5. If you have any memorable anecdotes, please share them.
During the interview process for foreign applicants, I met various individuals. Those who were not hygienically clean, lacked enthusiasm for employment in their interview demeanor, or had untidy hairstyles or nails, did not receive positive results for employment.
Q6. What kind of applicant makes you think, "I definitely need to meet this person"? Please also tell us what part of their resume stood out the most.
Rather than academic background, I first look at their work experience in Korea and physical conditions suitable for the manufacturing site, as mentioned earlier. Even without experience, if their Korean language proficiency is intermediate to advanced, it catches my eye. However, their attitude when actually met is much more important than their resume, and encompassing all of this, the most crucial thing seems to be an attitude that shows a passion for work.
Q7. Do you plan to hire foreign workers in the future? Please also tell us what kind of talent you would like to work with.
Based on this experience of hiring foreign workers, we are open to the possibility of additional recruitment depending on future business expansion or production line situations. We hope for talent who can get along well with current foreign and Korean colleagues without hesitation and work diligently.
Q8. If you have any words you would like to share with foreign job seekers preparing for employment in Korea, please do.
Diligence is the most important thing in the process of preparing for employment and a career. I hope you don't forget the attitude of actively learning tasks even after joining the company.
Q9. Do you have anything to say to companies considering hiring foreign workers?
Once we started the recruitment process, the language barrier was not as big of a problem as we thought. Translation tools like ChatGPT are so good. What's more important than language is the mutual effort to communicate. However, you must go through legal recruitment procedures, and if it's your first time, there will be many things you don't know. In such cases, utilizing platforms like JOBPLOY can be very helpful.
