Hello, this is Jobploy, a recruitment platform for foreigners looking for jobs in Korea.
Today, we'd like to provide you with a comprehensive guide to the E-7 visa for professional employment.
The E-7 visa (specific activities) is a visa that allows direct employment of foreign professionals in fields designated by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Korea as particularly necessary to strengthen national competitiveness by introducing foreign professionals with specialized knowledge, skills, or abilities.

General Qualifications for E-7 Issuance
There are common qualifications for issuing an E-7 visa.
Unless otherwise specified, these common requirements must be met.
Foreign worker qualification requirements
Basic Qualifications (one of the following)
- Master's degree or higher: Master's degree or higher in a field related to the position being introduced
- Bachelor's degree + 1 year of experience: Bachelor's degree related to the position + 1 year or more of experience in the relevant field
- 5 years of experience: 5 or more years of work experience in a field related to the position being introduced
Only work experience after obtaining a degree or qualification is recognized as work experience. However, for those working in advanced technology fields (IT, bio, nano, etc.), internship experience prior to graduation is recognized as work experience.
Special Qualifications (Experience Requirement Exemption)
- Those with more than one year of professional experience working in a top 500 company in the world
- Holders of a bachelor's degree from a world-class university (within the top 500 of the QS World University Rankings)
- Graduates of Korean technical colleges: Exempt from experience requirements for employment related to their major
- Korean university graduates: regardless of major, waived experience requirements
- Graduates of the study abroad program (D-2-7): Exempt from the national employment ratio
- Advanced Technology Incheon (D-10-3) Residents
- High-income professionals: If the total annual compensation is more than three times the gross national income (GNI), the job type, education, and career experience are all exempted (GNI 49.95 million won in 2025).
Degrees and career certificates must be translated into Korean or English and must be notarized by a consular official or internationally certified by an Apostille.
Employer qualification requirements
- There must be no national or local tax delinquency.
There is some consideration given to the need to hire foreign nationals rather than domestic workers and the plans for their use.
National Employment Protection Review Criteria
You've probably heard a lot about the screening criteria for national employment protection. It's a system that allows one foreign worker for every five Koreans performing the same job.
In the case of E-7-1, considering that it is difficult to replace nationals with professional manpower and that they contribute greatly to national wealth creation and job creation, the standard is not applied in principle except for the wage requirement.
However, the screening criteria are applied exceptionally to the following specific occupations.
- For occupations where there is a risk of over-recruitment of specialized personnel, the National Employment Protection Review Standards apply.
- Mechanical Engineering Technician (2351)
- Draftsman (2395)
- Travel product developer (2732)
- Overseas Sales Representative (2742)
- Translator (2814)
- For certain occupations, such as exporters, separate limits are placed on the number of employees permitted to be hired. In these cases, these limits are indicated separately in the job description.
- Web Developer (2224) - 20% of national employment
- Mechanical Engineering Technician (2351) - Maximum number of employees varies depending on the number of regular employees, excluding the National Employment Protection screening criteria. Up to 3 employees.
- Draftsman (2395) - Up to 2 people, excluding those subject to the National Employment Protection Review Standards
- Travel Product Developer (2732) - Up to 2 people subject to national employment protection screening criteria, up to 3 people depending on recruitment performance
- Transportation Manager (1512) - Ship management companies and forwarding transportation companies have separate requirements for the number of permitted personnel based on the number of ships, imports, and sales.
- Overseas Salesperson (2742) - In addition to the national protection screening criteria, separate requirements are applied based on sales and export destination countries.
- Designer (285) - Separate requirements apply depending on the number of foreign insured persons (up to 3 persons)
For occupations subject to the National Employment Protection Screening Standards, the following screening standards must be observed:
- Size of the Employer: Companies with fewer than 5 Korean employees and primarily focused on the domestic market are not eligible for E-7-1 visas for occupations subject to screening.
- Foreign employment ratio: Foreign employment is permitted only within the range of 20% of national employees.
- Wage Requirements: Check the New E-7 Visa Wage Requirements for 2026
