2024 Joint Government Crackdown on Illegal Foreign Residents

📢 Notice on the implementation of the second joint government crackdown on illegal foreign residents in 2024 and the operation of the special voluntary departure period

The Ministry of Justice will strictly deal with the issue of illegal stay and implement the second joint government crackdown in 2024 to protect the safety and livelihood of the people. This crackdown will focus on cracking down on illegal acts that pose a threat to the people and the issue of illegal stay of foreigners, while providing exemption from entry regulations and fines for illegal foreigners who voluntarily leave the country during the voluntary departure period, thereby helping more foreigners to stay legally.

📅 Crackdown period

  • Monday, September 30, 2024 - Saturday, November 30, 2024 (2 months)

👥 Participating ministries

  • 5 ministries including Ministry of Justice, National Police Agency, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Korea Coast Guard

🔍 Focused areas of enforcement

  • Crimes committed by illegal aliens, including drug use
  • Industries that undermine national jobs, such as delivery services
  • Working in the entertainment industry
  • Illegal entry and employment brokerage activities

This joint government crackdown will focus on cracking down on not only illegal stays but also crimes related to foreigners that threaten the safety of citizens or hinder the livelihood of citizens. In addition to strict measures against various immigration crimes, we plan to contribute to the establishment of law and order through measures such as forced deportation and entry bans.

🔈 Voluntary departure recommended

Special benefits are provided to illegal aliens who leave the country during the voluntary departure period, including exemption from fines and entry restrictions.

Through this opportunity, we plan to provide guidance on how illegal aliens can voluntarily leave the country and re-enter through legal procedures.

The government is taking a thorough approach to solving the problem of illegal stay and is encouraging voluntary departure from the country ahead of crackdowns.
This will give you the opportunity to leave the country without legal problems and later re-enter legally.
