Registering a Private Authentication Method for Foreign Workers to Log In to Public Institutions (KakaoTalk)

In Korea, most tax, financial, and public sector work is conducted online.
To use these services, identity verification is required.
For foreign workers, registering an authentication method can feel quite tricky.

Today, I will guide you through how to register a private certificate (simple authentication method) using the KakaoTalk app .



📝 What you need

  • Korean mobile phone number under your name
  • Bank account number in your name


1. Install and sign up for KakaoTalk
Please search for “KakaoTalk” in the App Store or Play Store, install it, and then sign up.
(Signing up is relatively simple as there are many global users.)



2. Access the certificate menu
After launching KakaoTalk:
① Click the More menu
② Select the “Wallet” button
③ Select the “Issue Certificate” button ← The order may vary for each person. Please select the menu that says [Issue Certificate] in Korean.





3. Certificate issuance procedure

  • Mobile phone authentication
  • Confirmation of deposit of 1 won into account
    Upon completion of this process, you will be issued a certificate.


Now, you can use this certificate to easily log in to various places, including Hometax, financial apps, and public services .

How to log in using a private certificate is explained immediately below.

1. Select a login authentication method

After running on each login screen (location and name may be slightly different for other services):
① Click the Simple Authentication (Private Certificate) menu

② Click the simple authentication button




2. Select an authentication method from the list of simple authentication methods (KakaoTalk)

① Click the KakaoTalk menu * The location of the icon changes each time, so please check the shape of the icon.

② Enter the authentication number , name, date of birth, mobile phone number, and consent to all

③ Click the authentication request button





3. KakaoTalk app authentication

A verification request message will be sent to your KakaoTalk app. Please select the " Authenticate " button within the message within the time limit to complete verification.



4. Check if authentication is complete in the service

If you have completed authentication in the KakaoTalk app, please complete the final authentication by clicking the ① Authentication Complete button in the service modal.

This completes the login using your private certificate.
