[Registering private authentication methods for foreign workers to log in to public institutions (KakaoTalk)]

In Korea, most tax, financial, and public sector work is done online.
To use these services, identity verification is required.
For foreign workers, registering an authentication method can feel quite difficult.

Today, I will guide you through how to register a private certificate (simple authentication method) using the KakaoTalk app .

📝 What you need

• Korean telecommunications company mobile phone number in your name
• Bank account number in your name

1. Install and sign up for KakaoTalk
Search for “KakaoTalk” in the App Store or Play Store, install it, and then sign up.
(Since there are many global users, signing up is relatively easy.)

2. Access the certificate menu
After launching KakaoTalk:
① Click on the More menu
② Select the “Certificate” button

3. Certificate issuance procedure

• Mobile phone authentication
• 1 won deposit verification into account
  Upon completion of this process, you will be issued a certificate.

Now, you can use this certificate to easily log in to various places such as Hometax, financial apps, and public services .

How to log in using a private certificate is explained immediately below.

1. Select login authentication method

After running on each login screen (location and name may be slightly different for other services):
① Click the Simple Authentication (Private Authentication) menu

② Click the simple authentication button

2. Select an authentication method from the list of simple authentication methods (KakaoTalk)

① Click the KakaoTalk menu * The location of the icon changes each time, so check the shape of the icon.

② Enter the authentication number , name, date of birth, mobile phone number and consent to all

③ Click the authentication request button

3. KakaoTalk app authentication

A request for authentication will be sent to the KakaoTalk app. Please proceed with authentication by selecting the ① Authentication button in the message within the time limit.

4. Check if authentication is complete in the service

If you have completed authentication in the KakaoTalk app, click the ① Authentication Complete button in the service modal to complete the final authentication.

This will complete the login using your private certificate.
